Club Activities
UARC Information Net
8:30 pm Sundays :
UARC holds a weekly net to disseminate information
related to amateur radio. The UARC
Information Net is held every Sunday evening at 8:30 pm on the
club's 146.620 MHz repeater. The net includes announcements of UARC
activities, Newsline, ARRL
Bulletins, a listing of other clubs and nets, and a roundtable where
people with questions or problems can seek out those with answers.
Utah 76ers Net
7:00 pm Wednesdays :
The "76ers" hold a weekly social net to connect with friends
to share and announce amateur radio activities and events. The Utah
76ers Net is held every Wednesday evening at 7:00 pm on the
club's 146.760 MHz repeater. This informal net includes announcements of
upcoming activities, gathering proposals, and a roundtable where people
with questions or problems can seek out those with answers. To join,
email utah76ers@gmail.com with your request to join, including your name,
call sign, and city, and you'll be added to the roll!
Field Day
Noon Saturday 27 through noon Sunday 28 June 2026 :
UARC participates in the annual
Field Day held each year on the fourth
Saturday and Sunday of June. Field Day is the world's largest amateur radio
contest and is sponsored by the American Radio Relay League. Its purpose
is to give operators as much opportunity as possible to experience emergency-type operating conditions:
quickly set up a station in the field, operate continuously through the night, and on emergency or backup power.
UARC usually sets up three or more stations as part of the event.
This is typically done from a site in the mountains,
appropriate for a family get-together and camp out. You can see photos from
our 2025 Field Day in the
August 2025 issue of Microvolt.
Annual Steak Fry
5:00 pm Saturday 18 June 2026 :
UARC's big social event of the year is the
Annual Steak Fry, usually
held on a Saturday in July.
The event includes a swap-meet, a steak dinner, and awards.
For 2026, the Annual Steak Fry will be held at the
Spruces Campground
site GRP7. Some of us will show up around 2:00 pm to start setting up, then start cooking around 3:00 pm.
Homebrew night
7:30 pm Thursday 09 October 2025 :
Each year, we get together for a night to show off what we had built during the past year,
such as an antenna or hidden transmitter attenuator. It's your chance to share your skills
and handiwork with the rest of the membership.
Homebrew Night is during our regular October club meeting night, for 2025 it'll be in the Warnock Building.
Winter Field Day
Noon through 8 pm Saturday 24 January 2026 :
Apart from the ARRL Field Day, we plan to
participate in the 2026 Winter Field Day at the
Utah Cultural Celebration Center,
1355 W 3100 S, West Valley City.
Similar to Field Day, it's a 24-hour stretch of making contacts with as many others as possible,
just not quite as formal. But we'll only be operating for eight hours, from noon to 8 pm.
Spring Potluck Dinner
6:30 pm Thursday 12 March 2026 :
The location of the potluck dinner is the
Salt Lake County Facilities Management cafeteria,
2001 S State St, room S1-100, just inside the doors to the South Building.
It's across the street from O.C. Tanner, if that helps. We've
posted a signup sheet here.
This could be the start of an annual tradition!
Field trips
Let's take a trip to Leamington, Utah!
Every so often, we need to update the site or make repairs, and
that gives us an excuse to make a day out of the excursion, and
travel outside our comfort zone, to a slightly more distant
comfort zone.
Fall Potluck Dinner
6:30 pm Thursday 10 September 2026 :
We had such a great potluck dinner in March 2026, that we've decided to repeat that
fun event with another one, this time at the same location, the
Salt Lake County Facilities Management cafeteria,
2001 S State St, room S1-100, just inside the doors to the South Building.
It's across the street from O.C. Tanner, if that helps. We'll post a signup sheet
as the date draws near.
Christmas Dinner
6:30 pm Thursday 11 December 2025 :
We just couldn't let the Holidays go by without a fun meal of our own, so
yes, it'll be time for yet another dinner. We're planning this one as dutch treat
for the Midvale Golden Corral, 665 E 7200 S, so each person pays
for their own at the restaurant. Although this dinner will replace our December club meeting, we
plan to hold elections that night, plus conduct other club business in between bites.
